Sending the Oregon Trail to China

THE OREGON TRAIL
Seeking promised fertile land, many started out in western frontier towns such as Independence, Missouri. Facing droughts, floods, disease, looters, hostile Indians, dangerous animals, and dry mountainous terrains, many families saw their loved ones perish as they slowly traveled the Oregon Trail. The strain of traveling the trail shows in this unidentified family. Pioneers, many who walked the entire 2,000 miles, followed the rivers in hopes of reaching Oregon, California, or some place where they could claim their homestead and start a new life. (Photo by the Denver Public Library - Western History Collection)

Sent to Aeon in P.R. China!

He said he likes history, traditional costumes, old photos, etc.

Arrived 2 Aug 2016, traveled 7,218 miles

Orchids, Wild Mint and Pirates

On the back: 'Tak Sing' passenger ship was situated in Porto No. 12 where was once the boarding pier for new governors to Macau.

From wikipedia: "Scheduled ferries have run between Hong Kong and Macau since the earliest days of the Hong Kong colony. Ferries to Macau departed from the old Macau Ferry Piers at this location from at least the mid-20th century, although in the 1960s the steamships - Tak Sing, Dai Loy, Fat Shan and the (more luxurious) Macao - would take around four hours for the trip. Also part of the present site was the famous Sheung Wan night market."

I'd love to know when the photo was taken, and if the caption in English on the back matches the Chinese characters on the front.

Also, the stamp! Kang Lau Shek - has a WAY more interesting wiki article. "At the island's southeastern end are two large rocks known as the Drum Rocks, or Kang Lau Shek (更樓石, "Watchman's Tower Rocks").[5] They are 7-to-8-metre (23-to-26-foot)seastacks on a wave-cut platform.[3]" Apparently the island has a population of EIGHT, was once used for smuggling, and "A large part of the island is country parkland,[4] with footpaths overgrown with orchids, wild mint, and morning glories.[5]". Essentially, let's go hiking with pirates, eh?

Postmarked 23 Nov 2015.

I love cards like this, it's not a generic tourist card, has a pretty stamp, and I learned something,

And she asked for a drawing on the back, so:
it's rough, but it'll do.

ESG: My Last Vacation

I'm trying electronic swaps on swap-bot! So angel1985, paraxparaxnoia annd AndyLea - enjoy!

Prompt:
Think back to your last vacation (vacation beeing at least 4 nights away in another town).
Share minimum 5 pictures and tell your partners p.ex.:
• where you have been
• the best thing that happend during your stay
• a thing you'd recommend
• one anecdote
• anything that made your last vacation special

In April, I went on a road trip with my dad and sister. We drove from Omaha Nebraska to Niagara Falls (US Side), then to NYC, then back home.

The Brooklyn Bridge!

The best part of the trip would have to be our day at the Niagara Falls park. All of the tours were closed for the weather, but we were able to walk around, and we took a trolley around the falls. It was wonderful.

It was so windy!

I would try to go when everything is open. Don't get me wrong, we had a blast, but I would like to see the observation deck and go on the boat.

View from the middle

We only spent half a day in NYC, but it was wonderful. We saw Yankee Stadium then drove to Manhattan Island. I drove the entire length of the island to see the Statue of Liberty, not knowing we were driving past it the ENTIRE TIME. I felt so silly. It was wonderful place and I want to go back.

Freedom Tower

Also, what they say is true: New York pizza is the best pizza.

my beautiful sister

What was most special about this trip was spending time with my sister and dad. We don't live in the same state and I don't get to see them very often, and they are my best friends.

Commodore

Posting this strange postcard at the witching hour on the most witch-ing-est of days. Halloween is my favorite holiday, I absolutely love all of the traditions from around the world (especially Dia de los Muertos).

Anyway, back to the postcard...

Another tagback from Book Chick on sendsomething.net:

Last time: Fairies

The postmark on the back from 18 October 2014 says "Go Team San Francisco!"

I think it's awesome that the post office is supporting their team (Giants versus Royals in the Series right now, btw).

Also, I love the regulars on sendsomething that always tagback!

In five years

I love random surprises from sendsomething, net!

A while ago I got this postcard from Georgette! I'm just now getting around to responding, but I wanted to post this for now.

She put a quote on the back (I LOVE QUOTES)

"You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read." -Charlie Jones

Thanks Georgette :)

Vladivostok

I love this old time photo postcard from Kaneste in Russia

Front:

Back:

The stamps are awesome! I also think it's neat when people write little tidbits like she did on the bottom: She wrote it on 15.08.12 (August 15, 2012) at 21:29 (9:29 pm), and it was Gloomy that day (25 C = 77 F).

Also, this took a month to get here! I picked it up from my PO Box on the 16th of September.

Haapsalu

(please excuse the poor quality of my scanner)

How beautiful!

This is from Daire in Estonia.
"Warm sea water, curative mud and fresh air have made Haapsalu well-known for centuries. Only a hundred kilometers away from the capital, it's always been a loved summer resort in Estonia."
